Question Evidence of engine age (Ford)

I need to prove to the SVA test examiner the age of my engine. I have stated the engine number as the casting number on the block and I intend to reference that to the description in a book "How To Rebuild Small Block Fords" by Tom Monroe. Will this documentary evidence be enough to prove the engine as being a 1971? (the casting number begins D1OE)

The DVLA man has already inspected the car with regard to registration and went away happy so I am assuming that I shouldn't have any problems using said casting number as the engine number

Thanks...

You'd be better off contacting the SVA station which will conduct your test and asking them - trouble is that what one tester may accept, another may query.

Hi Iain,
Where did your engine come from? The reason I'm asking is if it came from a reputable supplier then a letter on their headed paper stating the age of the engine will suffice.

I bought the engine ripped out from a car and I rebuilt it myself. It was a cash sale (so no receipt) to avoid the you know what!

Hi

I took just my Tom Monroe book to the SVA and it worked for me (1999).

Iain - just notcied this, you have the main issue pinned down, but a pencil rubbing of the casting code is worth doing, since with the starter in place, the tester can't really see it!

Unless you have stamped it elsewhere? (hint)

Hi Wilf,

Thanks for the heads up. I was afraid of this so I went under the car this week to check. It appears that the starter motor does not prevent you from reading it. Lucky for me!

Thanks...

Do you think that a photo of the number before strip down, one after block cleaning and then one of the painted block would satisfy or would the tester still need to see the number on the engine in front of him?

If it was me doing my job then Id answer yes, definitely, but as I work in the private sector and not in a government office I would!
