Exclamation auto electrical help Please

Not Cobra related, but on my Rover Diesel.

The engine management light came on at start up and the rev counter is behaving erratically, as in, when the throttle is let off the needle shoots up at @4000 rpm and dances about, as soon as the throttle is pressed again it goes back to normal.
Every thing else 'seems' OK
I know its a long shot but has anyone any ideas

The crank sensor may need a clean or possibly you have a bad contact on it?

Rich,
Check the condition and connections of your earth straps. Corroded or dirty connections to the bodywork etc can cause all sorts of weird faults.
Good luck,
Russ.

Also, a battery on its way can cause funny events.

Could be worth disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or so (make sure you have the radio code first) - it's a bit like control-alt-delete on a PC.

Thanks Russ and Wilf, all was fine today, so it could be a bad connection somewhere, i'll check it over at the weekend.
