Thumbs up sidepipe outlet angle

Hi Guys, , tomorrow going to weld the rear bracket to the outlet of my sidepipes, I see a lot of people have the outlet horizontal, some others angled downwards, it would seem to make sense to angle the outlet towards the ground to direct the exhaust gases, was thinking about 45 degrees, any thoughts before I spark up the welder? regards Dave

hi,

mine has a stainless band around it that bolts up tight. A bit like the belt on trousers. This allows the end section to be moved, so pointed at the ground for SVA then straightened afterwards. Might be an alternative to welding it at a funny angle.

Dave, Just set it in a few different positions, stand back and eye it up to see which looks best. I went for angled down slightly, maybe 20 degress and I think this looks best. It's your car so have a trial and see which suits it better.

The Dax ones are supplied straight out the sides, 90 degrees to the road. They also pass an SVA test like this so no problem there.

I would recommend 90 degrees to the road anyway, because if you ever need to drive in a dusty carpark, show field, donnington Etc it saves you from being the most unpopular person in the area.

Dave I decided to point mine down about 30deg which looks best in my opinion also blows away from peoples legs, but be warned pointing too the ground at whatever angle really blows up all the dust on a dry hot day.

Original SC cars pointed out horizontally.
Pointing them towards the ground will not help with the SVA as this causes a bounce back of the noise in addition to the direct noise, making the noise test harder to pass.

90 degrees to the side of the car but about 30ish degrees to the road on the Dax pipes. I guess you want to reduce the amount of bends so coming off the heads and pointing them straight towards where the side pipes will be is the way to do it..

Take a look at my gallery to see what they look like. Link below my signature.

I made mine exactly 30 degrees From horizontal as they exit through the body. They say a picture paints a thousand words....
