Cobra oval air filter

Hello Guys

I have a GDJag based Cob in which I have just installed my (lovingly!) hand built RV8 3.5!! I am soon to take delivery of a Holley 390 which will sit on top of my Edelbrok performer manifold. I will also put a leveling plate between the carb and the manifold.
What I need to know is will a Cobra style oval air cleaner fit on top of this setup and still fit under a GD Mk4 hood? Has anyone done this? The cheapest I can find these are about £90 at "V8Tuner" ( V8 Tuner - Rover/Chevy/Ford V8 - Air Cleaners ) and I don't want to spend the money to find it won't fit once the body comes! I want to get the filter on soon as I want to run the engine up.
I like the Cobra style filter and it goes perfectly with the Cobra Rocker covers I got from Jim at JRV8. Just need some advice guys, if anyone has been there!

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,
I have a GD with a 4.0 L RV8, an Eidlebrock carb and Offenhause manifold. I have fitted the same oval Cobra air cleaner as the one you describe and it misses the underside of the hood by a wide margin. The width of the air cleaner is less than the hood scoop. The Offenhause manifold is lower than the Eidlebrock but I think it will still fit. The best thing to do is wait untill the 390 and leveling plate are installed and measure what is left.
Regards
Terry

Hi Terry

Thanks for the reply. I don't suppose you have a picture of your engine bay that you could post? Just starting my pipe work etc and need a bit of inspiration!!

Thanks

Martin

BTW - just to let you know that you can get K&N filter elements for these oval cobra air filters. Two sizes - one 3" tall, the other 1 3/4" tall. The latter is code E 1963 from memory. I got mine from Demon Tweeks on special order.

Thanks for that Wilf, I was wondering where to get the elements.
Martin, I'll take photos at the weekend and post them.
Regards
Terry

Hi Tony

Thanks for the message. I very rarely get down your way, although I would like to more often as its a lovely area. I now have a Cobra air filter. I got a good deal from the place I got a few other bits from so am happy with that. Got a long time to wait to see if it fits under the hood, but improvisation will always win whatever happens!!

Thanks

Martin

Europa sell the Cobra oval but expensive. Summit but import. American V8 engines do them at a good price. Adricar2 on here.
