alternators

quote=C.Rogers;251287]Funny you should say that Alfie.

We managed to narrow it down to the alternator today. It is drawing about 1/4 amp.

The next step is to see if we can sort it out. We're making head way, slowly but surely!!!

Clive, i know. It is a nightmare, what with working and the weather not being great, it is proving a bit difficult to enjoy her as much as i would like.[/quote]

Hi Again,
I thought so I have had quite a bit to do with alternators during my working life, and its pretty common for one of the diodes to go leaky and drain the battery, unfortunately although you could repair it yourself, the soldering iron has to be really hot so your average 300c iron wont be hot enough also getting the diodes may also be a problem, I agree with Clive just bite the bullet and either replace it or take it to an auto electrician for repair as it will save you loads of hassle for the sake of £60 eh.
glad to help
Alfie B

If it is a GM -pattern alternator, you should be able to get a "repair" kit with all the electronics in it from the likes of Repower. The diodes are often encapsulated and you can't get to them to replace individual ones.
