| Punching chassis number on chassis Just got the punch set from machine mart to do this and it is rubbish, it will not do the job. Does anyone have a good set I could borrow, in a bit of a hurry now as DVLA man comes back next Thursday and I need to have a number stamped on the chassis, or on a plate welded on. ( no welder either) I guess pay postage or any other thoughts as to how to get this done appreciated. David

| I don't think you need to weld a plate on anywhere, some rivets will do the job. If you have a painted or galvanised chassis this would be a right pain to have to do. Pilgrim supplied me a plate prestamped with the chassis number and I rivetted it to the bulk head under the bonnet. I did also stamp onto the chassis rail and the chassis inside the boot. G.

| David, Craig is right, I have used many different types of number/letter punch sets and always use a club hummer Do not use a claw or standard hammer, it will not work. ONE hard whack with a club hammer and they will work, try them again Cheers Dave.F.

| Dont forget if you are right handed start the row of numbers from the right hand side not the left; so if your number is 123456 start with the 6; sounds odd, but it weill give you a lovely even row as you are not covering up the letters already stamped with your hand so have a reference for level and spacing; we used to stamp an awful lot of press tools at work, so we got pretty good at it; and that was the main knack (plus a lump hammer). Oh and make sure you stamp the plate against a good hard surface like an anvil or something really solid! The machine mart stamps are perfectly ok on normal material like MS and ally; just need a really good single blow; they do wear quite quickly though. Have fun (BTW my last 2 cobs have had rivetted plates and passed SVA as well)
