Security devices

How far have you gone with any vehicle security device? Alarm, imobiliser, tracker?

Anyone any experience of the imobiliser supplied by Dax (from their loom supplier).

Cheers.

Andi.

Security Devices

Andi,

A Thatcham approved Cat2 immobiliser is pretty much a 'must-have' and will normally get you a discount on your Insurance. An audible alarm system (Cat1) is usually more trouble than it is worth in my experience. The ultrasonic detectors need careful setting up for convertibles otherwise you get loads of false alarms. I don't have much experience on Trackers. Quite expensive but will lead you to the location where the joy-ride left your Cobra burnt out. I've not used the DAX immobiliser you mentioned.

Whatever you decide to fit, it is probably worth a call to your Insurance company to see if they have a preferred device or manufacturer. Some Insurance companies also insist that they are professionally fitted and that you have a certificate to say so.

Cheers,

Hi Andi,

I was thinking of fitting one of these,

TOAD Text Alert GSM mobile security system. New

It has a built in pay as you go sim card and texts you if the car is tampered with, and an output which could be used to isolate the fuel pump or ignition.

Russ

I opted for a hidden master switch which only leaves the alarm and courtesy lights on when the switch key is removed. this does mean you need 2 fuse boxes but thats no problem.

The alarm I fitted (15 years ago) was a Gemini. I don't believe this company are in business anymore so if it ever goes wrong I'm snookered, It has a small box which I think is some form of microwave sensor (thats how it was advertised), adjustable range so it can be set for the cockpit with tonneau on. it also incorporates an imobiliser which is in the Low voltage side of the ignition.

Yes that is the way I went as well. Hopefully when some Ar5# #### takes a fancy to my car hopefully seeing there is no steering wheel will stop him from tearing out half the electrics to try and get it started.

After all if they really want it no alarm is going to stop them anyway.
