Question Oil Cooler

I want to fit an oil cooler to my AK V8 Chevy, has anyone any experience with any of the off shelf 'kits', that include the cooler, flexibles and sandwich plate thingies.

I have done a search and see one or two have had trouble with the fittings on the sandwhich plate being too close together.

Also, whats the best route for the pipework on the AK, have peeps just bracketed the tubing to the chassis?

Number of rows? etc, I assume they are all ally? Bit ignorant really as I have no experience with oil coolers.

Cheers for any light you can shine.

Warren

You want a 13 row oil cooler and you will have to route the pipes the best you can that will fit in with your instillation. Think automotive is the place to go. HTH

Also if poss get a seperate thermostat and not one that is built into the sandwich plate, i found the ports very small and may restrict oil flow.

Hi,
Don't know whether this picture helps, best I have. The cooler is mounted on a plate in front of the radiator. Then the thermostat is mounted under the chassis. Then you can see the sandwich plate.

Great help, don't suppose you have a close up on the filler plate, where did you source the cooler etc.

Connections look really tight on the plate I also want to try the remote stat suggested by one of the guys as well as a tee piece to accept the oil temp sender.

Cheers

Hi Warren,

I don't know if this will help but here is a picture of my stat and cooler on my Dax. You could also try Fay at speedflow, SPEEDFLOW braided hoses | home she really helpful. I think thats Bogsters car on the home page.

oil cooler

Warren,
I know its a pet subject of mine, but apart from the "look" have you given any thought as to why you would need an oil cooler (be carefull, this could save you some money)
