Cheap mappable ignition ?

Hi folks - I wouldn't mind having a fiddle about with mappable ignition advance on the RV8, just to see if I can squeeze a bit more from it. I don't plan on fitting EFI as I'm totally happy with the Edelbrock 500 (or will be once i've finally sorted out the part throttle lean spot - when I finally get around to building the WBO2 kit that I've had for 3 years!). I don't want to spend much cash here as it really doesn't warrant it - but if there's a cheap system that I can interface easily (either with an easy to fit crank sensor, or capable of using the standard contact breaker points of the Mallory) I'd be very interested!

Thanks!
Pete.

do a google search for megasquirt. this a diy kit so presumable cheap. obviously there is a lot of work involved to install and setup.

i thought about option too this but in the end settled for a billet distributor, msd ignition and a big carb of course. A lot less mucking about than the electronics route and much less of a git if it goes wrong.

Megasquirt comes in at close to just under £300 quid for MSII ver 3.0 version (eg latest) MS I is cheaper. I know the fuelling is quicker and more linear on MS II, but dont know about spark side. Look on ebay for people selling completed ones built 'properly' if you're not good with soldering iron.
Bit of a waste tho, using megasquirt for only 50 % of what it was designed for.
Cheers
Kevin
