Engine cc and Insurance

I have been calling the list of Insurance companies today and determining which ones will cover on a chassis number and for how long before a registration number is obtained. This varies a lot !

However so do the quotes dependent on the answer to the engine cc question.

I have a 5.7 chevy , stroked with 200cc heads so I answer 6.1 when asked the question.

If I say 5.7 I get a much lesser quote than when I say 6.1.

I am not even considering giving a false answer to the question and potentially invalidating any cover I may purchase, however have others experienced this ?

The difference between the 5.7 answer and the 6.1 answer is about 20% on the premium ?

Thanks

David

Backfords are flat premium (if you're over 30) irrespective of engine size/power.

David

I think the way I did it was to get their build Insurance. I paid for a full year then added cover notes on each time I needed to take the car anywhere.

These cost about £30 a go but the total cost of my build Insurance was deducted from my first years premium once I was registered.

It may have changed in the 3 years since I did it but might be worth asking.

Craig.

Im with b& b and paid build up ins then paid for 2 cover notes to drive to sva etc then transfered to full cover once I had registration. As Craig said they deducted all I had paid already from the premium, as it was all done within the cover period

Hi Dave (Cliffords)
The "200cc" you refer to in the heads is the inlet runner length, and forms no part of the engines cubic capacity.
The engines capacity is purely the calculation of the cylinder bore diamiter and the crankshaft stroke, times the number of pistons.

3.142 X Radius X Radius X Length X 8 = ???

Phoned them again today and have sorted just this as above.
Thanks for the help to all.

I took the build Insurance out with them which covers you to drive to & from the SVA test. You just have to inform them when the test is and I think there was a £25 admin fee for the issue of a cover note.

Yes can confirm that does not matter what size or modifications engine wise, as said if you start off with there running board cover you can convert it to road use for SVA purposes.
