LT77 speedo sensor takeoff ?
Looking at my ETB speedometer instructions it looks like I can either :-
a) use the magnets and sensor I bought b) use the speedo takeoff on the LT77 gearbox. Firstly....have I understood the instructions correctly ? If I have....which would be the best solution ? My instincts tell me that the LT77 takeoff would be better because it's a tried and tested mechanism, whereas the magnets and sensor would add additional risk i.e. magnets flying off the prop shaft. If anyone has used the LT77 gearbox takeoff I would be interested to hear about your experiences. Cheers

Looking forward to meeting up with you at LeMans, or on the way even. Cheers

Hi,
I have ETB instruments in my Cobra, and use a wheel with holes in it (daisy wheel type) which is bolted to the prop flange and the sensor counts the holes rather than sensing the magnet. Car came like this when I bought it, so I can only presume that this kit was sourced from ETB. No chance of anything coming flying off with this set up, and have never had a problem with it in the four years I have had the car. Cheers Marty |

Tony has confirmed that the LT77 gearbox (standard R/3 gearbox) has a built in unit for an electronic speedo, it would make sense to utilise this, and eliminate the work and risk of adding an additional sensor. I've seen the setup you mention and I'm sure it works just fine. Cheers

Ive just fitted a speedo and sensor from Europa and it doesnt even use magnets.
Made up a small bracket to attach to the end of the gearbox and the sensor is fixed close to the propshaft bolts and picks up off them. The end of the sensor actually flashes when its connected up to 12V which allows you to fit it just right. |

Your best bet is to ring the guy at ETB and ask him, he's pretty good. Cheers
