VW Polo Heater

Hi,

I need a bit of advise please
Bought a VW Polo heater to replace the Mini one in my Sumo.
I'm fabricating a box for the front to take the hoses for the vents.
When you look at the front of the heater there is a gap below the matrix of about 40mm where air can be blown out without going through the matrix, do I leave this open or block it off so all the air goes through ?
I presume it will be left open so th air coming out will not be too hot but wanted to check before I fit it all.

Mine is blocked off as the heater is mounted on the bulkhead in the tunnel and the collector box is the other side. I wouldn't say it gets too hot either. On a cold winters day with the fan on full, It's just enough to keep the footwells cosy

Definately block it off, you only want the air to flow through the heater radiator and not to bypass it via the gap. I glued a piece of wood in the gap.

Agreed. I blocked it off on mine to and used the slimline plastic plenum from car builder solutions for the hose take offs. I had to cut a piece out of the middle and glass it up again to reduce the width but it fitted nicely after that - I blanked off the bit you are talking about using a bent piece of alulinium. I only have mine connected to the screen vents at the moment but there is another 2 take offs that I could hose into the footwells if I required. I will see how it goes-it was cosy enough for the 300miles to stoneleigh and back.

Thanks for advice,
Hole now blocked off with ali plate & chamber made for the front with 4 outlets.
Just need to fit it all now.
