Smile SVA paperwork engine swap ?

Hi there,

Is there any point in sending off the Jag log book claiming to have put a SBC in it. I have heard that this in no way hoodwinks DVLA or VOSA and infact may p**s them off ?

Any thoughts ?

It is just not necessary to play games, its perfectly legal using a kit of parts from any supplier to register the car properly without any real hassle.

just make sure you have reasonable receipts, certificate of newness etc from manufacturer, and a v5 from the donor of the axles and you should be fine.

In my view, the ESSENTIAL things you have to do are; change the v5 engine number to actual number of the engine you are fitting, make sure you have the correct engine size stated, if the transmission has changed, for example the original is auto and you are using a manual box, change this also.

Thumbs up SVA process

Futureproof

Having just gone through the process, I can say it was not as tough or painfull as I had been lead to believe.

The V5 I had from the donor XJ6 I kept and did not change anything just kept the SORN up to date.

For the SVA I had GD present on my behalf. All I had to provide was proof of ID, and address ( passport and Council tax bill) a selection of build photos over the build period. and copies of the receipts for recon of jag suspension and engine, gearbox etc. Test centre Nottingham.

For the Registration after taking the completed forms the my local office 2 weeks later a man from the ministry came round and inspected the chassis number stamped , the engine block number stamped and the block cast date/code. Test DVLA Reading.

Now on th eroad with 320miles on the clock. After it has run in I will get the carb and engine tuned.

Dave

Waste of time changing the details they know the score and as you say will be more likely to be annoyed than anything else. There is no need to do it any way so don't worry you will not get a Q as long as you have used the parts required.

Hi Stan.
That is BIG No No.
If they suspect you have done a "Paperwork engine swap" your application will be thrown out. This used to be a popular trick for the bike engines super 7 guys who wanted to get a late model bike engine through SVA without it having to pass a car cat emissions test.....900cc Sierras for example!!!
If the engine does not have the same capacity or look like a Jag (in this instance) engine when you turn up for the test (If you even get that far) there is a very good chance you will be sent home with a "Refusal to test" letter.

Bending the rules is a thing of the past nowadays, the techincal department at VOSA are much more clued up these days.

Just to make the point further - we put the max power of our engine down at 4500 RPM - apparently that is very low but fitsin with the 3000 RPM limit suggested by the engine builders. We got a phone call after we had submitted the paperwork along the lines of 'we know ur taking the p***, what is it really?'.
