RV8 Mixture screw

Hi again,

Could someone tell me which way to turn the mixture screw on the RV8 EFI ( Range Rover 1989 ) to weaken the mixture ( cockwise or anti-clockwise ) I did write it down somewhere but can't for the life of me remember where & I have searched on here but can't find any mention of it either

Many thanks, Phil.
P.S. hope this doesn't start another handbags at dawn debate like my recent RV8 Cooling thread

As far as my understanding goes Phil, to turn the mixture screw anticlockwise will make it richer. With my own homework done on the subject the correct mixture will be 2 full turns anticlockwise when fully closed (clockwise) give or take quarter of a turn.

Info from RPI

Thanks Stu,
Thought of something else as well, does adjusting this screw only alter the mixture at idle ( it's called the idle mixture screw ? ) or will it alter throughout the rev range If not what sets the mixture when running ?

The idle screw is an all round mixture adjustment, but don't expect results when idling because the engine/ignition needs to be turned off, so I understand.

The tickover setting can be adjusted via the screw on the plenum by the throttle linkage.

As said before, all info has been gathered from higher sources and after tedious attempts over the same subject these are the conclusions.

Had a play with my carbs some time ago, and if memeory serves me anti clockwise is indeed richer, however you need to get the airflow balanced between the 2 carbs first, then play with the mixture, then check the balance again etc. also there is a small brass plunger bottom of the carbs which lifts the piston slightly, when the mixture is correct pressing this plunger in will have no effect on engine RPM, If when pressed the engine runs faster then more adjustment is required, Can't remember whether running fast or slow with plunger in indicates rich though, but I think its all described in the trusty old Haynes manual.
Getting it right makes a huge difference.

Cheers

Keith
