Question Help RV8 thermostat housing.

I am trying to fit a new dizzy to my RV8 and the only position that allows me some timing adjustment means that the vacuum chamber fouls the thermostat housing. Does anyone know of a housing with a different outlet or will I have to get it moved and welded? I hope that the photo will give some idea of my layout.

thanks

John

Turn the distributor away from the thermostat housing and fit the wires into the correct holes?

Hi Dave, If I do that the electronic module opposite the vac chamber fouls on the valley gasket clamp! You can just see the module on the red and black leeds near the bottom of the picture.

It looks to me like there is enough clearance.
If not, is it the right distributor?

Regards

David

Hi John,

Mines about 1'' away & appears to be angled closer to the engine than yours. I'm not sure whether it's the original one but the engine is from a Range Rover ( 1988 ) so you may need to see if you can source one of this type.
Sorry can't be more help, hopefully someone will know which model it's from.
Regards Phil.

Move your plug leads around the distributor cap by one space anti clockwise, then reposition the distributor body so that the No 1 aligns up with the Cap again.

Just needs a little lateral thinking.............

Still won't work Wilf, no matter how you try it this type of distributor will not time up using this thermostat housing on the Edelbrock manifold. Clockwise , the vacuum advance hits the thermostat housing . Anticlockwise the module hits the cylinder head.

John,
We sell a modified thermostat housing that will allow you to turn your distributor further clockwise and get timing alignment. If you want to give me a call tomorrow, I should be able to help.
Regards
Jim

Jim,

Do you have a photo of the thermostat housing?

David

Hmm - will it work 180 degrees around plus or minus one lead space?

David - pic of the housing is in post #1.

I think David was after a picture of Jims modified thermostat housing.

I still think it should fit though. Don't forget you can remove the distributor and rotate the shaft one tooth on the drive gears.
My Range Rover had a similar distributor and that was mounted in the same orientation you have your one.

Must be a way to get it lined up somehow?

Craig.
