Jim`s thermostat housing.

For anyone interested here are a few pics of the housing. It has solved my timing problem but may still cause air locks. I will be looking at fabricating my own housing for my RV8 using the old housing as a base. I aim to bring the outlet out just above the alternator adjusting bracket and pointing straight at the rad. Will keep you informed, but need to drive asap.

Sorry John but how can a thermostat housing be causing a problem if it is fouling on the advance unit, you just turn the distributor around 45, 90, 135 deg and then move all the HT leads around to suit, as obviously the rotor arm wont move.

Hi Tinker, The ignition module on the opposite side of the dizzy fouls on the head if I try to rotate the dizzy. There are units with the module at 45 deg to the adv. unit but they are like hens teeth to find.

Thermostat Housing

Hi John,
I have exactly the same challenge and the same solution from JRV8. I haven't flashed her up yet, so I would be interested to know if you manage to get enough movement to acheive correct timing. I note Tinka's comment about shifting the plug leads round, but whichever way you do it, there is limited movement - I just hope it is enough. I agree about finding a 45deg dissy, I haven't been able to source one-Rimmers claimed they didn't even exist!!
Rgds

Hi David, I have just fitted mine and run the engine up. Not timed it on a light yet but there is a lot of rotation available now. I have run the top hose under the HT leads just in front of the near side rocker cover. Neat ish but I hope to improve the layout in the autumn.

regards
John

Thermostat

Thanks John, I would be interested in any changes you make; it sounds from earlier posts as if others might be too. Please keep me posted

thanks for the photos john, i'll stick with the original housing i think, as mine wasn't a clearance issue just trying to get a better pipe route for the coolant hoses

Hi Danny, As I said it is a quick fix and the pipe run is not ideal. I will post a drawing of my proposed housing and if you like the look of it I could always make up 2.
