Chevy Engine Codes
MorTec, Inc. Chevy Smallblock V-8 Casting Numbers List

Built at Flint plant June 19th 1970 or 1979. 350 ci. Did it come with all the emission control junk? If so 1979, if not 1970.

.............but you quote 3970010 as the casting number. This will give you a date range and the engine number will give you the build date.

In 350 form the date range is 1968-80.

Edit: Arrr, I see. You are still looking for the stamped casting code. I couldn't find one on my big block.
