Paint Blisters

I have recently bought a Sumo and parts of the body have paint blisters (some areas have approx 15 per sq inch). I looked through the records and it had a respray from red to blue in 2002. I suspect that it is moisture or something under the paint that is causing the blisters, but how do i get rid of them without re spraying, is it possible????

I have been told that rubbing with a very fine wet and dry paper with lots of water might smooth over the blisters??

Any advise????

I think that you will have to rub the blisters down and have that part of the car resprayed I'm afraid. I suspect that if you just try to flattern them down you'll go through them.

Your best bet would be to talk to a spray shop. When I had a 'mishap' with my car I used Sovereign Coachworks near Hastings. Nobby used a place in South London somewhere and was please with the results. I'm sure He'll post up the name of the place.

If your paint is not metalic you could do the respray of the effected part yourself.

Pete

Micro blistering most likely. Due to the undercoat not being dried out enough after wet flatting or moisture in the air during the top coat. Usually seen in poorly applied base coats and clear systems, have seen it in solids but not much.

Or it could be the new water based system been applied incorrectly if used.

I've witnessed extreme bubbling on cars which have been kept with a cover over them. Never ever use a car cover for more than a week whether inside or out.
Doesn't solve your problem. But a warning to all of what to expect if a cover is used.
Only remedy is repaint.

Depending on the cause, but leaving the car out in the sun on a hot day can reduce the blisters. My car is badly blistered from being under a plastic sheet in a leaking garage. Some areas the blisters / bubbles went. Others the paint has fallen off after cleaning.
