Fuel Tank Breather

What is the consensus with fuel tank breathers for carb fitted engines? I have seen some threads with discussion of very smart non-return valves in a breather pipe, or some with a just a length of pipe fitted. What is necessary/advised for road use only?

Appreciate your wisdoms

I have a simple pipe from the high point of the tank to the top of the filler neck and that sems to work fine. Also makes filling much easier with very little, if any blowing back.

My set up same as Pauls. Drilled out a 10mm bolt then drilled and tapped in to filler neck, turned down end of bolt to suit breather pipe, hose clip, jobs a goodun.
