Rear caliper query

I have just had my rear calipers reconditioned and have noticed they are Dunlop and not Girling. They looked like the ones in the manual but are slightly different. They have come back with 2 bleed nipples in each caliper- why? Will these still be okay for my build? I bought the axle from a scrappy and asked for a series 2/3 xj6 or xjs, is tjis what I have? The suspension parts look like they should. Doing an A.K btw

cheers

Paul

They sound OK to me, but without a picture no one will be able to tell you for sure. The reason they have 2 bleed nipples each is because you will normally remove one on each and use these 2 points to connect to the other half of the calliper. So the brake pipe goes in one side then the hole next to it will go to the other side, and the final hole will have the bleed nipple in it. Here is a picture, which will hopefully be a bit clearer.

The bleed nipples have been moved since I got the calipers back, used them to check the threads on all the fittings. I gather the bottom fitting is the entry for the brake line, then it bridges across to the back one and the front fitting is the bleed hole.

Does anyone know what fittings they take i.e are they 3/8 x 24

Cheers

Paul

Attached is a picture of the Dax standard chassis setup.

The pipes are run slightly differently in that the two calipers are linked together. Same difference really except you only need to bleed one point.
I mounted the brass Tee piece on the chassis and ran a short pipe from where the bleed nipple on the calliper should have been to one port on the Tee piece. I then plugged the other two holes in the Tee with the spare bleed nipples. Gives a nice remote bleed point so you can do it easily under the car.

Calipers look much the same as mine though.

Craig.

I do like the idea of one bleed point, something to consider when I start building. No need to worry yet as I have not even ordered my kit, getting my garage sorted (council are so slow) and getting all the suspension sorted ready for it to go straight on when it does arrive as space is at a premium.

Have picked up a few bargains along the way too. Best has to be my getrag gearbox with complete prop for £110

My calipers seem to take different pads too. They look like they are 2" square and only have the one retaining pin.

What pads do I need and where will I get some pins etc?

I'm starting to think those could be E-type brake calipers. These are E-type pads and it states for Dunlop calipers.

Pads

I think a call to the re-conditioners may be in order as I think you would be better off with the correct XJ type Girling calipers.
There could be a E-type owner out there somewhere wondering why he now has the wrong calipers!
