LT77 electronic speedo transducer

Hi
I have an LT77 gearbox which is originally from a Sherpa van. There is a transducer in the side for use with an electric speedo, which is a bit worse for wear! Trying to find one to replace it with but even Rimmers only provide second hand ones, when they can get one!

My main question though is that being a Sherpa gearbox with a slightly lower ratio 1st gear to the standard SD1 car, will the transducer read correctly for an ETB electronic speedo?

Thanks

Martin

The transducers are colour coded depending on the type of box they come from. If yours came from the box you now have fitted, then it should read correctly - subject to the difference in diff ratios/wheel size between a Sherpa and your diff/wheels.

Hi Martin.
I wasn't aware the Sherpa used an electronic speedo, but I could be wrong. The most likely source would be your local Daf dealer. They are normally very helpful, and provided it is a Daf part, if they haven't got it in stock could order it for next day.
It should work fine with an ETB, as although 1st gear might be slightly lower than an SD1 box it still has a 1:1 4th.
Failing that the ETB daisy wheel & sender mounted on the propshaft flange would do the trick. HTH

Adding to what Robin said.. It shouldn't matter which one you get as the ETB can be calibrated to whatever pulses/diff ratio/tyre size you want.

Rimmers had new SD1 ones (which will fit any LT77 or R380) advertised on their site last time I looked - about £100 though. The gearbox 1st gear ratio is absolutely irrelavent because the speedo drive is on the output of the gearbox so its speed for any given roadspeed is solely dependant on diff ratio and wheel diameter - the revs the engine is doing in any gear doesn't matter (else you'd need a different speedo drive for each gear ! ).

Colour is also irrelevant because, as Chris says, you can just recal your speedo by driving at a constant (satnav indicated) speed and adjusting the calibration number by the percentage error the speedo shows compared to the satnav - easy peasy.

To All. I THINK that all above posts are not applicable, as the amount of pulses is counted by the electronic speedo. on a given one mile run, and calculates from there, if I am correct then you could opt for any pulse generator.
I used the device with four magnets stuck to the prop. but lost one twice due to stones hitting, and finally settled for the one that goes into the spedo cable output.
