Vosa

I have to say that VOSA are certainly on the ball I sent my receipts and photos back on Monday afternoon. Today I had the next letter from them.

The problem this time seems to be proof that the original part build was also an amateur status. I have to contact the original builder and get proof that his work was amateur.

One step at a time I guess.

Andi.

i thought you stripped it back to chassis? if so surely your photo's would prove it's been an amateur build.

That's what I was hoping, having supplied pictures of the vehicle leaving the old owners house, arriving here and with all the major components removed.

Phew!

Andi. I assume you filled in and signed the form, AB Declaration (revised) and ticked box 4 http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repo...0June%2006.pdf As I see it you have signed a declaration/legal document, and by asking for further proof they are questioning your integrity. Whatever happened to "Innocent untill Proven Guilty"! I know you are over a barrel, but it does make you wonder if VOSA shouldn't be spending the public purse on better things! Other than trying to catchout innocent car builders who are doing things by the book.

Yes I did tick box 4, I didn't explain any of the photos theough which show it leaving the other guys house, being stripped down again and rebuilt. I just hope Paul hasn't left for Spain yet!!

I might try to ring VOSA as their English is pretty poor in their response and not totally clear.

I have now spoken to VOSA and I'm a very happy amateur I had a very good chat with a young lady to start with who knew what she was dealing with but after a while said she would get someone to ring me back.

I had a call within the hour and after describing what the photos were he agreed I was an amateur.

I think he also paid me a complement as he said one reason for questioning the amateur status was some signs of professionalism in the build. In fact some signature Dave Brooks things on my car apparently.

Anyway he agreed to process it so we should have an SVA soon - Gulp!

nice one, and what a nice compliment; and quite ironic that a system said to have been set up to improve the safety and build quality of amatuer built kit cars is questioning your amateur build status due to the porfessional build quality!!
Makes you wonder how a 'roller' bought from Kirkham or Crendon wil fare at SVA doesnt it!

Anyway, nice result and good luck with the test; you could be on the road quite soon-yeehah!!

The amateur only has to have built the "majority" of the car.
How the majority is proved/argued I don't know.
Rolling chassis' bought from the manufacturer and then built by an amateur are perfectly ok. VOSA said so.

So you only built half a car.

The easy bits.
