| The glass fibre laminate material used for making Printed Circuit boards may be useful. It is most commonly only 1.6mm thick or thinner but you can get thicker material I have seen it as thick as 6mm. It normally has copper one one or both sides but this can be etched off. Try looking in yellow pages for PCB manufacturers and have a word with them. You could also try Electrical Switchgear or transformer manufacturers as they often use sheet material for insulating terminal assemblies. HTH Denis

Unfortunately it needs to be fibreglass as I need to do some fabrication work which I cant do with sheet alloy. Quote:
Cool idea but I need a sheet around 6 feet long - I doubt I'll get any Printed Circuit boards that long! ;> I may have to just buy a sheet from the guy on ebay and then see if I can find a courier willing to transport a 8 foot by 4 foot sheet. There must be a courier somewhere that can handle it... Many thanks for the replies guys! CeeJay

| Hmmm, not sure I get this? why not make the cover from something easy like cardboard (or even really thin plywood) and then slap some glass & resin over the finished article, that must be easier than trying to chop up an 8*4 sheet of grp. Jim |

I second this method. works really well. Do it all on some plastic sheeting to begin with - it just peels off.

Hi Jim Time is a big factor here - I can easily chop up the sheet grp into the desired lengths but the amount of time to make up a sheet (even just covering up plywood) will take to long. Also I'm limited by the fact that I have to do the laying up of the grp outside because I dont have enough garage space to do the job inside - and as it wont stop raining up here, getting the weather to do the job is also a real pain.
