| Hi Gents My Car is ready for the SVA test and I need to commit to a Chassis Number. But I'm getting some conflicting info on Chassis plates and Numbers and hope that you can clarrify one or two things as I can not get a diffinative direction from previously posted threads. 1) it appears to be gamble as to whether the chassis number should be on a Plate or stamped directly into the chassis. Should I do both to ensure that I get it right ? 2) Do I need an additonal plate attached to the Body work ( Engine bay/ bulkhead) ? 3) How many figures do I need to compile my unique Chassis Number ie 13 or 19 figures ? How does the following sound.....COB 6O13 441 J8J 4) should I avoid O and 1 ? which would be a shame as it is similar to the original chassis Numbers used by AC. 5) can I stamp the 8 digit 'engine number' as marked on my chevy engine onto the chassis plate as there is a pace for it ? 6) What should I do about the 9 digit 'partial VIN number' which is on the Engine block ( next to the engine numer), do I need to remove/ strike through ? or can I just leave it there ? many thanks Steve |

| The number has to be 17 digits, I put PS (pilgrim sumo) 2003 (chassis year) and then my phone number including code backwards. It is on a chassis plate on the baulkhead

| Can you ask the current owners of Ram for a number? Is there a current owner of Ram. I heard that someone called Cheng lim plays with them a bit. Maybe he could give you a number. Thunder Road Cars, The Home of the Cobra Replica Craig.

| "On mass produced cars in the EC there will always be a 17 character number starting with three letters - the "World Manufacturer Identity". The rest of the characters are used to denote model, variant, assembly plant and whatever other information the manufacturer desires. As far as the amateur builder is concerned, the Vehicle Inspectorate will accept ANY reasonable combination of letters or numbers comprising more than 8 characters. As an amateur builder, you might have been assigned a number with the kit or you might have to make your own up. Make sure you choose a combination not likely to be repeated by someone else - for example "00000001" will be unlikely to satisfy the Vehicle Inspectorate. If for any reason, they don't like your choice of number, they will assign you a DVLA number. These numbers always start "SAB****" and consist of 17 characters. The only drawback of such numbers is that these are the series the DVLA usually allocate to re-shelled mass production cars so the Police often concentrate their searches for stolen vehicles on these cars. We're not saying it will happen but you might get more than your fair share of attention from the local constabulary if awarded one of these!" (Total Kit Car. "A Guide To Single Vehicle Approval - SVA" Nov. 2003)
