Clutch Hydraulics

I have the Repower Bellhousing and Clutch Slave assembly. GD supplied a dash 4 flexible hose to connect it but this would have been connected to 3/16 hardline. I notice that most cars use standard 3/16" hardline and dash 3 flexibles. Has anyone noticed a problem using dash 3 size throughout? Clearly the larger hose/pipes will allow the fluid to move more freely whereas a smaller bore will need a bit more pedal pressure to release the clutch in the same period of time.

I use 1/4" or dash 4 - there is a chance that with the smaller bore pipework, you can't get enough fluid flow to release/engage the clutch under "rapid" conditions.

I have the same dilemma, but could only find 03 series fittings which would mate to the 10mm hardline coupling which is mounted on the GD chassis or the 10mm female thread in my clutch slave cylinder.

Thanks for the reply Wilf it is appreciated... It's the "Chance" problem I was hoping to find out about.

Come on guys don't be afraid to let Wilf know you have smaller bores than him!! It's not Gay... Or is it?
The question is "Has anyone noticed any problems using dash 3 size hoses and/or standard 3/16" bore hardline throughout?" with the Repower Clutch slave kit???

Cheers

Denis

The Dax supplied clutch pipe is a one piece braided flexible tube. Not sure what size it is but I could measure the outside diameter if it would give a clue.

The distance from the pedal to the clutch is quite short so I think it made sense to do it in one pipe with no joins.

Clutch seems to work fine and no matter how quickly you press the pedal you cant feel a delay. Clutch is bloody heavy though!

Craig.

Hi Guys,

03 braided hose is approx 0.25" OD with a 0.125" bore. 3/16" brake pipe has an I/D of just under 0.125".

The 03 series fittings have a bore of approx. 0.090".

I would like to fit 04 pipe and fittings but can't find adapters to go into the std brake pipe 10mm fittings.

Wilf, if you have 04 pipe and fittings can you let me know where you got the adapters from please??

Knowing Wilf it would probably have been Think Automotive Product Range

Do you mean it was the same bore or outside diameter??

I've now found my missing vernier calipers.... -4 is about 7.5mm Outside diameter.
I've noticed that the swaged fitting on the end of the -3 hose has an internal diameter of only 2.4mm so it is even more of a restriction. I'm sure some of the other GD owners have some 3/16" copper or kunifer hardline in the wheel compartment and then maybe -3 and or -4 to the Clutch. The three flexibles from the inner wheel arch to the Bulkhead connectors certainly all look the same size (-3) on the pictures I've taken at shows. Grateful for comments.

Hi Denis,

How are you my friend, I went with what GD supplied me with which was a -4 flexible from the block of 3 connections in the engine bay which I connected on to a 3 branch brass connector then about 4" of 3/8 pipe to the slave cylinder (I used the 3rd outlet for a remote bleed point) I can't remember my master & slave combo, I have a standard 11" clutch & my clutch is no to heavy.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Kelvin
