Diff Speedo Sensor

Hi all, Couple of questions
Has anyone used the speedo sensor on the back of the Jag diff, or is there a reason not to.
Would the Dax supplied sensor for the prop shaft be a better bet? I've read in a couple of posts that this sensor doesn't work until your doing around 20mph, would the diff sensor be more accurate?

Thanks
Mark.

Hi Mark

I planned to use the diff sensor in my car but the cables were unfortunately damaged whilst I was moving the diff about the garage.

In the end I made up a plate with a large thread in it to hold a Smiths sensor in the same location as the original sensor. It worked fine and gave good readings but then I decided to change my diff to a lower ratio one.
The new diff didn't have the pick up ring on the crown wheel so I then had to go over to the Tremec sensor which works equally well.

No reason why the Jag sensor won't work though. I also thought of using one of the ABS sensors on the wheels. That should also work quite well.

You might just be able to see it in the photo.

Hi Mark,
If you are using a Ford 302 what gearbox are you using? My suggestion would be to use the speedo drive from the gearbox, you should have a lot less bother in the long run.

Hi Clive,
It's a Jag Getrag box, I don't think there is a speedo take off

Cheers
Mark.

Do you know how many wires the Jag sensor has?

I have the Jag wiring diagram at home so may be able to see what type of sensor it it.

What type of gauges are you using?

Craig.

The car is having the exhausts done at the moment so i can't check, but i think there are two wires on the existing and both are damaged.
I was going to replace it if it was a better, more accurate setup.
The gauges are Dax supplied, Smiths Classic electronic speedo

Mark.
