89 XJ40 3.6 Manual Jurid Diff

Hi All,
Just had a really quick look at my diff which is still in the rear sub-frame and found 2 info plates. One had '3.58' which is the ratio and the other had 'CBC7782' on it. Lloyd Barnes very kindly sent me the CD Parts Catalogue, but i cant find that part number in it. On page 33 it only lists JLM numbers which i cannot see. Also noticed a GKN stamp on the inspection plate. Any ideas to the spec of this diff?

Cheers

Fraz

As you have said the 3.58 will be the ratio.

The other number is probably just a serial or batch number so unless you have access to the factory records from 1989 you won't know what it is.

What else did you want to know about the diff anyway?

Craig.

Quite easy to test.

Turn the input flange by hand and both the output flanges (or wheel hub if it's still in one piece) should turn in the same direction.
If you then hold one of the output flanges and turn the input flange and you cant turn it, you have a powerlok diff.

If you can still turn it, and the un-held output shaft still rotates then it's an open diff.

Craig.

No, its just a normal one for me then. Wasn't sure if they didn't lock till it had some power coming through them like an LSD.

Cheers
