    Engine code for 351 Cleveland??

    Hi guys I would appreciate some advice on how to obtain manufacture date on a 351 Cleveland, it is a 4V closed chamber, 4 bolt main. Engine code on block is D2AE-CA , 2G18.
    Cheers

    That's a casting code. D2 = 1972. The rest I cannot desipher without my book. The actual assembly date will be stamped on the block end face directly behind the timing cover/ water pump plate.

    How to rebuild Ford V8's by Tom Monroe is a good book that expalins how to read casting dates etc as well as full rebuild info.

    If it's in good nick then the block along with the CC 4v heads is a very good base to start a high performance motor

    Hi Daren,

    D = Decade = 1970's
    2 = Year = 72
    A = Full size Ford (Depicts the car type)
    E = Engine Engineering

    Not sure about CA

    2 = again year 72
    G = Month = July
    18 = 18th

    Hope that helps.

    Got a mail from Ford technical to explain my 289 casting code, hope to use this for proof of block manufacture when I take mine for IVA.

    Hi Daren

    D = decade of manufacture, D = 1970's
    2 = year in decade... 2 makes it 1972
    A = Ford car line
    E = engine group

    Your 2G18 is a date code;
    2G18 means it was cast on 18th July 1972 (A being January, B Feb and so on)

    Much appreciated guys, the engine bottom end is in very good Nick, the car has sat under. A tarp outside for about 5 years and has gotten some moisure up the exhaust into the ports and corroded a little. Will need an overhaul on heads, valve seats etc. Do you guys know a good reconditioners in the hertfordshire area? I also have a C6 trans shift kitted 2500 stall that needs doing also.
    Apologies if this is asking too much.
    Thanks again

    Worth a run down to Realsteel in Cowley Middlesex? They know what they are doing with yank blocks.
