shotblasting coil springs?

would this cause them any damage? obviously it would be done with very fine media, but I don't want to weaken them.

I would guess that if they were done with lead (ie: ball-peened), you would not only clean tham up but make them less prone to surface fracturing. Having said that, so what if a bit of sand gets into them? They are not exactly overworked. And even going one step further, so what if one breaks, it would be unlikely to be a sudden event, rather it would go gradually. Any other thorts?
