RE: Bell housing

Graham
Interested in your comments regarding flywheel & clutch. I am getting a Tremec plus parts from Repower. Asking for 11" Flywheel & clutch I was told the supplied 10.5 " although they could get a billet flywheel at 11". Do you know if there is a big difference. My engine is putting out 390BHP with 405Lb ft torque at 4100RPM. Also do you know if the Alloy flywheels are any good? ie do you loose driveability at crawl speeds etc due to reduced weight. Ap[preciate your help if you can.
Mike.

RE: Bell housing

Mikey, i am no expert, but I am led to beleive that there is more surface area on the large clutch for the driven plate to work therefore more friction/grip and more power to go through it perhaps, however I think there is more 10.5" performance availability to improve and surpass this. 11" is old now and harder to get, they can get better versions Ie McCloud but maybe to order, try real steel. Put it this way I and several others are happy on stock or slightly modified engines but with your power you may need something better. I cant comment on ally flywheel never tried it, I have got cast and works fine and cheap.

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my AK 427 chassis and body kit due sometime in August.

I have obtained a Jaguar Getrag gearbox and small block Chevy 350. The engine came from an old ambulance with auto transmission which I am given to understand has a four bolt block, as yet unchecked, which was manufactured around 1985.

I will need to acquire a manual flywheel and starter motor. Any advice as to what size flywhell to use, starter motor etc and what clutch/clutch plate will mate to the Getrag would be much appreciated. can existing bell housings be adapted and if not where can I get a suitable housing?
