Sumo Front Toe

Any body out there played around with toe settings to see what works best . The book says zero but I would have thought that a torquey rear wheel drive would have needed a little toe in any recomendations. Can anyone give me advise on entry level shocker setting Iset my spax to 8 clicks and it sems very hard anyone recomend a good setting for a Sumo fitted with a Rover V8. Thanks

RE: Sumo Front Toe

Bob - I played around with this a lot on my old Sumo. In the end I found zero toe worked best. I used the Gunsons(??) Trackrite thingy - you know, where you drive over a plate and it twists to indicate toe in/out. Very useful tool.

As far as shocker settings go, I don't believe that the number of clicks on the shock is an "absolute". Set them as so you are happy with the ride, (i.e. it's comfortable) yet get no float or weave at high speed. On my current car I am amazed at how little damper stiffness I am using, but it's very comfy and handles well on the road. Would tweak them up a few clicks for the track tho'. Most people seem to fall into the trap of setting the dampers for too hard a ride - it doesn't really gain you anything in normal road use.

HTH

RE: Sumo Front Toe

Bob,

eight clicks is going to be pretty firm especially when in conjunction with the rock-hard springing that Den seems to use on the modern Sierra-based Sumo. I would start at around three clicks from softest and work upwards , adjusting front & back separately. I guarantee you'll be fiddling with the settings for ages !. I run a Mk II Sumo with a Rover (4.6) and in the end opted to change the rear springs to make the car a bit more comfortable to drive. Ended up running about 230 lbs/inch front and 330 lbs/inch rear (as opposed to 430 or so as supplied by Pilgrim). I've posted other stuff on this issue elsewhere on the site if your interested (cant remember where though !).

Happy fiddling & congrats on a successful SVA pass !

Pete.

RE: Sumo Front Toe

Thanks Gents my back teeth have already told me that 8 is alittle high. I will take you advise on the toe and soften the dampers to about 3 or 4 although its hard to feel the first couple of clicks.
