Rover V8 Plumbing

I'm getting there! but my head is starting to hurt.

I have the Engine in, Radiator fitted, Performance manifold secured, water pump aquired and expansion tank at hand... Now for the fun of plumping it all up.

I have had a look through the Haynes range rover manual and it says nothing about which order the items are plumbed.

I know that the bottom of the expansion tank goes to the bottom of the radiator and the top of the radiator returns back to the top of the expansion.

But I don't know in which order the the Engine / Manifold / Radiator are plumbed. + where does the heater fit in to all of this?

Any help appreciated... Details of a theropists also welcome

RE: Rover V8 Plumbing

Dan
My car is plumbed as follows
1. Top hose from Thermo.hsg to top of rad with expansion tank teed into hose.
2. Bottom hose from large outlet on water pump to bottom of rad.
3. With Edelbrock manifold I could not use under manifold heater pipe so routed feed to heater from water pump over manifold and clamped it to rocker cover bolts on drivers side.(With overbraid looks neat).
4. Return from heater goes to rear of manifold.Used overbraid and econofittings on short pipe from manifold to waterpump,but this must be conected prior to bolting down manifold due to tight fit.
Simple heh.

RE: Rover V8 Plumbing

Hi Dan,
The plumbing on my Sumo/Rover is similar to Steve's but with some differences;
1. I found that the top hose is higher that the top of the expansion tank so I have replumbed mine into the top of the radiator rather than the top hose itself - seems to work ok so far.
2. I have the Edelbrock manifold with Holley carb and I have been able to use the under manifold heater pipe.

Other than that mine is the same as Steve's.

Hope that helps.

Wow... I'm going to be coming to that bit in about 2 weeks.

You've answered my questions before I've even asked them. I knew that this forum was good. I didn't realise it was that good. Now where's the "print" button...

Dan,
Your proposed plumbing is spot on.

RE: Rover V8 Plumbing

OK - I have the larger bore holes taken care of and the hoses have been ordered, So I don't end up getting far to much of the smaller bore hose I would like to get an issue clarified...

The Thermo housing has 2 feeds the large bore which goes to the top Rad... And a smaller bore...

The back of the manifold (Bulkhead end) has a similar size feed...

The Water pump has the same size bore coming out vertically...

Another feed enteres the waterpump through the timing cover...

So ok - 4 feeds possibly 2 hoses (3 when the heaters pumbed in).

Will it matter in which order these are plumbed?

I have attached a photo (Using my pen cam so the quality is pretty poor) I have circled the 3 outlets at the front of the engine (Red, Blue and green). The rear feed could be called orange...

They way I see it being plubed is thus:

* Red to Blue

* Green to Heater

* Heater to Orange

How does that sound?
Could someone be as kind to state which colours are connected to what if not...

Many thanks
