Front suspension

Ive just fitted the body to my AK and the ride height at the front is very high. I have fitted the recommended shockers and 9" 450lbs springs (Chevy engine) which are set at the lowest position on the adjustment. Has anyone else had this problem or do I have to bother Ken, AGAIN.

RE: Front suspension

Obviously a silly question but I take it engine is installed. My SR front has same set up with Chevy and is ok on ride height and not fully adjusted down. Sounds to me that springs are way out. I have got spare 375lbs springs if you wanted to try or maybe Bother Ken.

RE: Front suspension

Thanks Graham
I might take you up on the offer (they are 9" x 57mm) I'll hang on for 24 hours and see if other members have any more comments.

Cheers

RE: Front suspension

I finished my AK chassis quite recently and have a similar problem. The front end was so high I had great difficulty in attaching the steering arms because the wishbones were so far up in the air. I now have 4 sizable car batteries clamped to the front of the chassis which has brought the wishbones down a bit. I am hoping that once the engine goes in, hopefully over the next two weeks, the suspension will drop a bit more. According to Ken ride height should be attained with the wishbones about horizontal. Even with two heavy guys standing on the front end in addition to the batteries seems to make little difference.

I am still sceptical but will wait until engine and gearbox are in before I worry Ken again! I even wonder if I have the correct rated springs - the back end seems fine though and moves up and down when you jump on the chassis. The front hardly moves.

Cheers John

RE: Front suspension

What spring rates do you guys use on the rear - O assume the AK has a narrowed Jag rear end with fours springs?

RE: Front suspension

Kauri, yes put engine in and you will see a dramatic difference, remember a fully kitted small block and box is VERY heavy.

Nbracken - rear - 200lbs each spring on mine x 4, BUT I find a little to high at present and hardish and no more adjustment! so I will either add a bit of weight to rear or maybe grind of a smidgeon off of the springs. What do other peeps think?

RE: Front suspension

Yes AK do have the narrowed rear, they also have 4x225lbs springs which I find to be OK and the car sits down nicely on the rear. I have spoke to the boys at AK today and they inform me that the front will settle down over the weeks now I have the Chevy weight on it.
