RE: Wheels and tyres for a GD

Steve - the width of tyre you can fit on a wheel rim depends on the width of the wheel rim, and they come in varying sizes.

I believe that if, for example, you have an 8inch wide rim, the max tyre size you should fit is around 225, but this depends on, amongst other things, tyre aspect ratio. Wheel rim width in inches X 25.4 is a rough guide to tyre width. All tyre tread widths are stated in mm.
Once you know the tyre make you want to go for, you should ask that manufacturer what the max tyre size is that can be safely mounted to your rims. Don't depend on advice from this forum (including mine)- ask the experts, your life will depend on getting this right.
How have you sized your rims? If they are as recommended by GD, they will probably be able to tell you the tyre size you can mount - have you asked them?
Tyre size will also be limited by clearance in your wheel arches, and GD will know what fits.

Wider is not necessarily better.

Wilf

No I know that Wilf but I like the look of the wide tyre I never thought the E Type jaguare looked right with those skinny tyres always looked as if they needed to be twice as wide .

RE: Wheels and tyres for a GD

225mm wide on 50%aspect/16" diameter is the width limit on 7.5" wide rims for a GD Jag front end. You'll need to shim the rack to stop inner wheel arch fouling that will fail SVA and lose a little lock. 235/50/16 rears on 8" rims. Should cost you about £1350 the set fitted with Toyo Proxes T1S from Image direct to you door.
e-mail me if you want more details. Slightly heavy steering at parking speeds but unnoticeable on the move.
