RE: Chevy crank dampner

Thanx Norm

I have sourced one of these, hopefully it will do the trick. It was a big hammer and still it didnt shift. Was thinking of heating it but then thought of the downsides. When i started my build i would have done just that but now i think twice before doing anything

Cheers again Kelvin

RE: Chevy crank dampner

Hi guys

Just an observation but the puller shown in the attached image bears a striking resemblence to a Mini/Metro flywheel puller, might be worth a try ?

RE: Chevy crank dampner

THe puller is indeed very similar to a mini puller. If you have one, all you need to do is file out the slots in it a little bit to accomodate the greater diameter of the threads in the Harmonic damper than the mini unit is designed for, and Bob's your uncle!

By the way, if you have been hammering on the balancer and you hope/expect to use it again then I would inspect it very closely. The outer part of it is attached to the inner part by rubber only, and if you distort it I wouldn't like to be anywhere near it when you rev the engine to 6 grand! Same goes for installation. You can buy the expensive installation tool, or, like most of us, 'pursuade' it on with Special Tool No1. Do not strike the balancer on the outer part and use a piece of wood/soft metal in between!

Thanx Ringman

I have looked at it, and it seems fine the hammering has distorted one of the edges but there are no cracks apparent and the rubber seems fine.

I will use a bit of wood to re-fit it and mk 1 knockonmeter

Thanx Kelvin

RE: Chevy crank dampner

Hi Kelvin

to remove the damper you need a steering wheel/vibration damper puller,
see below.

Hope this helps,

Norm
