cracked engine balancer

I'm currently scraping together bits for the 351 cleveland and I have noticed a small hairline crack along the keyway of the harmonic damper which will destroy the front seal. I was wondering if it could be sleeved or if the forces are normally too great and the thing would disintigrate on me at some point. Anyone have any experience of this problem?

RE: cracked engine balancer

Throw it away and get a good quality "fluidamper" or similar. It's dangerous and you should not fit it.

RE: cracked engine balancer

Yes Yes Absolutely do not even be tempted to try it even for a short period of time. It is a harmonic balancer and dosent just take rotational forces. Its now a paper weight. Put it in the bin now before you see the price of a new one and get tempted.
Mike.
