| Holley Carb Query I'd be grateful for advice concerning those clever little clear plastic sight plugs you can buy from Real Steel and others for Holley float chambers. The question is - are they suitable for the initial float level set-up on a new carb (a simple 4160) or should the traditional "dribble through the threaded hole" procedure be followed and then the sight plugs merely be employed as rough visual check devices thereafter? For interest, the Chevy 350 runs seemingly OK just with all the nominal settings which came on the carb straight from the box, but I suppose I should go a little further and set up the float levels, idle mixtures, etc., more precisely as recommended? Grateful for any expert guidance. Bruce |

| RE: Holley Carb Query Bruce More than suitable for initial set-up. Throw away those old ones and put the clear sight plugs in. Don't worry about the dribble test, just use the sight plugs. It is what they are designed for. The sight plugs are becoming more prevalent due to the safety aspects of having fuel dribbling out of the car with a hot engine and exhaust. There have been a couple of fire reported which have been as a direct result of bad practices. Best to err on the side of caution after spending the time and money building a Cob. | RE: Holley Carb Query Bruce, I have a Speed Demon that came with glass sight portals and can tell you that they are extremely convenient to have. I have recently put my Cobra on the road (June) and have been tuning it and making small modifications to it constantly. I must have referred to them dozens of times in the past months. I recommend them highly. Roscoe |
