| rear tires 255/60 15 or 275/60 15 As I have been following this forum for quite a while I now finally made up my mind to join myself as I found all the comments, hints and advice given here outstandingly positive and supportive. This time I do hope that I can get some help myself as I am going to replace the current tires I have got on my car. The current installed dimension is 255/60 15 (but could change to 275/60 15 and I do seek a H-Speed (or higher) index approved tire. All my research so far has only resulted in the summary that there appears to be no chance to find real road tires in this demension but only semi off road tires which are not my real aim. Only exception is one Drag tire made by BFGoodrich but this one appears to have the disadvantage of being only a good tire on dry street surfaces which appears to be quite risky being located in Hamburg. Hope that some of you have an idea about a potential alternative or can give a recommendation which of the Semi-off road tires is at least "driveable" and allows some grip. Thanks in advance Carsten P.S.: Of course I am aware that I could change to 17 wheels but my car has a vintage registration which I would probably loose in case I installed them. |

| RE: rear tires 255/60 15 or 275/60 15 Carsten There are loads of good tyres in your current size, but I have only been able to find the following in your intended size. http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/tol_pr...=46&man=Cooper The Cobra Radial G/T is an S and T rated tyre featuring a performance tread design and available in sizes ranging from 70 to 50 series fitments. http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/tol_pr...s/cobrarad.gif 1) Even wearing tread design 2) Flat tread profile for increased tyre to road contact and improvements in treadwear and handling. 3) Optimum footprint shape helps distribute the vehicle load improving handling and overall wear. These only however go up to a T rating, max speed 118mph, not much good for the Autobahn. Hope this helps. Robert Forum Admin http://www.cobraclub.com/flags/UK.gif

| RE: rear tires 255/60 15 or 275/60 15 A second search at Tirerack http://www.tirerack.com brings up some Yoko Yokohama Avid S/T with a dry rating of 8.6 out of 10. Best Regards Robert Forum Admin http://www.cobraclub.com/flags/UK.gif

| RE: rear tires 255/60 15 or 275/60 15 Robert, thanks a lot for your immediate response! Really appreciate it! Checked with the TIRERACK online data base once again and you are correct the YOkohama Avid s/t has the right size but the speed index unfortunately too low! Only tire I found so far with a real acceptable spped-index, though also semi-off road, is the PIRELLI SCORPION ZERO. Still it remains being appearancewise and also according to critics I read a real compromise. However thanks again! Carsten |

| RE: rear tires 255/60 15 or 275/60 15 Robert, this was fast! Thanks a lot. But of course you have been correct that the speed index is a real problem as our TÜV (equivalent to your SVA) would immediately withdraw the permission to drive the car on public roads as they say that my engine ( 6,4ltr 320PS 620Nm at 3200rpm) is too strong! Those guys are the real problem I am haveing although I must confess, that I can understand them up to a certain point as there is ocaisionally (in case of no traffic jam) the chance to really go high speed on the motorway as so far there are some sections left without speed restriction. But also, to be quite honest, another mayor problem is the grip of semi off-roaders which is fairly poor with my current YOKOHAMA 352´2 on the rear axle! So I´ll keep on searching for an appropiate street tire with min 210km/h (H-index) rateing. Anyhow / Thanks again Carsten |

| RE: rear tires 255/60 15 or 275/60 15 As I recon that most of us use the tirerack as well the tyres-online-co.uk. Perhaps it is of interest to someone that another potential source appears to be found under http://www.sicherbestellen.de/reifendirekt/start.html Carsten |

| RE: rear tires 255/60 15 or 275/60 15 The following has come up on tyre rack Dunlop Sport Rover GTX2 as an option, they are for light SUVs, but are supposed to have good dry traction. They are also the right speed rating. HR Speed Rated They do still look like a truck tyre though. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/images..._rover_gtx.jpg What is the ruling regarding the size of wheels in relation to the age plate? | RE: rear tires 255/60 15 or 275/60 15 You might want to chat with Charles who details the same sizes in his post. http://www.cobraclub.com/forum/DCForumID57/382.html The only ones I could really find were the BFG Comp T/A HR4. Best Regards Robert Forum Admin http://www.cobraclub.com/flags/UK.gif
