Chevy, tremec and 3.07 diff?

hi,

Does anyone out there use this combination. I know its more usual to use a 3.31, but I recently spoke to Andy @ GD about this and he says both are OK, I am interested in your thoughts/experiences

Chris

RE: Chevy, tremec and 3.07 diff?

Chris - I think both have been used in the past. The lower axle ratio might make the (very) low first in the tremec more usuable, but it will make the (very high) fith even more of an overdrive. On my car, with a 3.31 rear end, 5th works out to 3000revs for 100mph. So 70 mph is quiet!

RE: Chevy, tremec and 3.07 diff?

Chris it really depends on your preference - and use one of the ratio/speed calculators that there are posted elsewhere on the site to see what you will be getting based on your wheel size also.

I am in the process of putting a Tremec TR3550 in my car at the moment and have concluded that either a 3.07 or 3.31 would be fine ( however I actually have a 2.88 and will not be changing this until winter 2002/3 due to money and time so for the next year 5th gear will be largely decorative in my car). Some who use a six speed box even go for the 3.54.

Regards

RE: Chevy, tremec and 3.07 diff?

It is what I have in my GD but give me a couple of weeks to get the other side of SVA and I'll tell you about more than wheelspin in a 25 foot driveway! There is little to choose but the 3.31 seems easier to come by and it is a smidgen of acceleration over economy or vice versa. With a big V8 in a light body it makes little difference.
