Upgrading an old Dax Cobra

Hi

Just bought an old Dax Cobra, 85 chassis (modified suspension), Rover 3.5 with Holley. Underslung pipes. Manual 5 speed box.
I am going to get it re-trimmed and re roofed, body is ok, a few dings but nothing major.
Is it worth looking at getting a Chevy 350 small block? The Rover is ok but would love to have the Chevy, what sort of prices 2nd hand should I expect and would it be worth sidepiping it? The underslungs are ok at the moment.
Obviously it is pointless spending too much as once I have finished doing it up I could have bought a much newer one but would like input on where is best to spend!
Would the offenhauser head and 5 speed box fit on the 350?

Thanks

RE: Upgrading an old Dax Cobra

Hi Zeb

Before splashing out loads of dosh on engine E.T.C one thing that needs to be sorted on an early DAX is the bump steer as they were notorious for it. Later models 1987 had the steering rack moved and this improved ir greatly, when resurching my Cobra built 1987, i went to Dax and spoke to Gary Saunders he said that basicaly stay away from that year , although it can be modified , but what cost i cant remember. If your Cobra is drivable take it to Dax and let Gary have a look. I hope iv'e not worried you too much.

HAPPY BLASTING

RE: Upgrading an old Dax Cobra

Hi Graham

The suspension has been modified, the whole lot is now under the chassis at the front, if you know what I mean, so reducing the bump steer dramatically, I knew this was a problem so made sure it had been modified before I bought it. I have done quite a few miles in it in the last month and have had no particular handling problems.

Thanks for your reply.

Zeb
