| Sumo Radiator Positioning I collected the body shell for mt Sumo Mk III this weekend and when I got it home, had a quick trial fit to see if everything was OK. My problem lies with where the radiator is located. The rad itself is the Sierra diesel one that Pilgrim sold me and with the body fitted in place the bottom of the radiator is brushing against the body shell, not allowing enough room to push the body into true location. I have a picture at http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tony.breski/images/rad.jpg that shows how I have it fitted. The very front of the chassis offers two places that the radiator could be fitted. I have it fiited at the front most position (1). The brackets at the bottom of the radiator are too high for it to fit at the backmost position (2). One the video I see that they have fitted their rad at the backmost position. If I do this the I probably need to trim the radiator brackets. Can anyone offer help as to where it should be fitted. Thanks, Tony B |

| RE: Sumo Radiator Positioning Hi Tony, I posted a similar querry to yourself on this board not so long ago. If you do a search for Sumo Radiator you may find it.... I found that in my case the radiator fitted better the other way around to what you have it pictured in the photo. This helps to keep the radiator low as there isn't alot of clearance under the nose of the body. If you look in the build manual the radiator inlet/outlet is on the passenger side (Left hand side from cockpit). It is also better (but not necassary) to remove the plastic mountings on the side of the rad. You can use an angle grinder to do this quickly, I then used a grinding wheel to tidy it up, but use a crappy old wheel as the plastic will melt and stick to it..If you can be arsed you can then go over the whole lot with wet'n'dry and you'll hardly tell there was a bracket! An issue that I found was that the 'Ear' on the chassis that is used to accept the shaft for the front nudge bars, gets in the way of the inlet/outlet. I was ok because I'm not fitting the front nudge bars so I just nipped of the 'ears' with the trusty old grinder! You will need to make up a bracket to hold the top of the rad in place. I found it helped to have this slightly angled back. after test fitting the body I found there was plenty of room. but something you will need to consider when positioning your rad bracket is where the hinges on the bonnet will be situated. I have written a bit about what I did in my build diary and have photo's on my website. None of this is gospel - It just worked for me.. Hope it helps... | RE: Sumo Radiator Positioning Hi Tony, On the chevy, the rad has the outlets on the drivers side, or the hoses supplied dont fit/work out. I had to trim the brackets to get the rad to sit on the higher points,(2) and cut off the plastic side mounts. I used long bolts and nuts to space the bottom opf the rad forward to make the whole thing level vertically. Hope this helps Norm. |
