RE: front overriders-grille bar

This is an awkward one,i always make up the front nudge bar fittings as i go as the holes in the body need to be pretty spot on ,even with escutcheons.
However, the holes in the chassis for the front nudge bar are 2.25" centres the top holes are central in the nudge bar brackets and 1" down from the top.
I drill these holes first and then sight them up by eye and then drill the body when the body is fitted later, the line from the bracket to the body should be horizontal.
if you want to take some additional measurments give me a call and arange to pop over and visit,i'm in Crewe, Cheshire and have a car going together at the moment.07785 702005
Also i'm getting my website updated with a "current build" section, there is a picture of a nudge bar fitted to just the chassis without the body on,that might give you some pointers.Hopefully the new section will be up and running in a day or two.It might be labled as "latest" and be linked from my gallery page.

RE: front overriders-grille bar

I wonder if you have thought through the SVA implications of quick lifts?? Not known a car pass to date with them, but I would have to refer carefully to the SVA manual to see if they might. Certainly there would be pretty severe edge radius limits, but they might also fall foul of some other reg I can't recall at present. Your insurer mught take a dim view of them should you mow down a pedestrian too. (or indeed be involved in any kind of accident - they love nothing better than to find an "out).

Have you considered these points?? I would have loved to fit them on my car, 'cos by rights that's what it should have, but chickened after my insurers told me what they would think about them. Never thought further about them with regard to SVA- gonna have to bone up.

RE: front overriders-grille bar

Thanks for the info Dave. My message wasn't very clear. What I wanted to know was the distance width wise between the supports:-

<---------------------->
0 0

0 0

Hope this makes more sense.

Thanks for your offer of a visit, i'll take you up on that soon.

RE: front overriders-grille bar

Hi Wilf,

I'm pretty sure that the quick lifts would not be SVA compliant, I plan to leave them off when I put it through the Test. Good point about the insurance.
"Sorry Mr Insurer my grille bar fell off".

But seriously. I'll bear your comments in mind.

...................why oh why do DAX put the dimple on the rear but not on the front, especially as the front is a more tricky proposition? This has never ceased to bemuse me!

RE: front overriders-grille bar

I measured them today...30" centres.
Also i have that additional part of my website up and running at
www.v8cobra.co.uk/build.htm that might help with where to drill the chassis.

front overriders-grille bar

Hi

I'm in the process of building a Dax Cobra, and I am fitting quick lift jack pads instead of the usual grille bar and overriders. As you can see fron the attached picture, I have fitted the rear jack pads, the position of which was determined by indents moulded onto the body.

My question is, can some one tell me the exact distance between the front supports (measured from centre to centre) that pass through the body work, when fitting the grille. I need to known this as I may wish to retro fit a grille at at later stage.

Thanks.
