RE: Clutch plate orientation

Hi Tony.
2B is the fly wheel side. It should say on it either FW SIDE or something like that, but definately flat side to the fly wheel otherwise you run the risk of the spring housing hitting the flywheel bolts.
As for the other stuff about it not releasing properly, i'm sory i can't help as i think you have tried everything in previous posts.

RE: Clutch plate orientation

Thanks for all the advice. I should have known to ask here before I took the thing apart again. Now that my worst fears are confirmed I need to strip it down yet again and try things out once more.

Thanks for your help. I will let you know how things go.

Cheers,
Tony B

RE: Clutch plate orientation

Hi Tony

Hope you get your Clutch working soon

The guy that I bought my Cobra from had converted the hydraulic clutch to use a cable clutch and used the Mk4 Cortina clutch cable

Why you would do this I don't know except to save space with no master cylinder
Sounds acceptable until the cable snapped and I have had to drop the gearbox to fit a new cable

I am considering converting it back to hydraulic however has anyone else had similair experiances

Regards

James

RE: Clutch plate orientation

My advice is... you've fixed it now. Don't fix it again until it is broken. If it aint broke don't fix it.

Hey sorted my fuel problems out. It was the pump. This was for a fuel injected engine... oops silly me. Saved £ 40.00 though when I took it back and got the right one.

I've got your regulator here still James. I'll swap you it for a set of Video's. Whenever you are ready. Oh BTW you really will have to call round and see my cob... it's coming on a treat. Two forward and one back... but still getting there.

Regards

Clutch plate orientation

I am continuing to have problems with the clutch on my Rover V8 and before I go dismanteling the gearbox/engine again I would appreciate some advice as I have now been told differing stories.

My question relates to which way round the clutch plate should be fitted. I have attached three pictures below that show the plate. On one side (pic 1) it show a spring loaded plate. Pic 2 shows a flat side to the plate. Pic 3 shows the side profile, side A being pic 1 and side B being pic 2.

I originally fitted the plate with side B against the fly wheel. With the problems I was having, I swapped this around so that side A (the raised side) faced the fly wheel. My clutch still doesn't work properly and I'm convinced I just have this setup wrongly. I have since purchased the same clutch cable that was mentioned a while back by Danny Mann as ss0083 (Steve) and have tried the clutch with that.

If someone can tell me (for sure) which way round the clutch plate should be fitted I can then try to eliminate other possibilities if it still doesn't work - is it the correct bellhousing/gearbox combo, etc.

As ever, your help is very much appreciated. Once I solve this problem I can get on with the rest of it.

Thanks,
Tony B

RE: Clutch plate orientation

Tony.

I`ve just re-assembled my engine and gearbox complete with new clutch assembly. The flat side of the clutch plate should mate up with the flywheel and it should say on it which side is which, mine was marked with "flywheel side".
It was a borg and Beck replacement, could get part no. if you wish.

As for the bellhousing/gearbox combination I`ve attached a pic of mine if it`s any use,it`s a 3500 from and SDI with Lt77 box, should at least let you know if you have the correct bellhousing.

Tony.
