RE: Small Block Chevy with Tremec Clutch Arm Query

I'm here now!
The easiest way is to cut the end of the clutch arm down and re-weld the cup back on to the face of the remaining stub, the closer you can get it to the pivot point then the cheaper it will be for the master and slave cylinders that you will require to push the fluid about as big master cylinders are chunks of money, even so with that set up you are probably going to need a 7/8" master and slave.
A cheap slave cylinder in 7/8" is a Discovery type on at around £25 but this mounts in line the same way as the Dax master cylinder so you will have to fabricate a bracket off the side of the engine utilising the two 1/2" unc holes above the oil filter.
The closer the pushrod runs past the oil filter the better as this way the slave cylinder does not need to travel as far.
If the flange on the bellhousing is the only thing stopping you moving things closer then cut some of it away.
Just one question....Why didn't you buy your box and bellhousing from Repower as they supply a whole package that fits straigh in without any need for modding?

RE: Small Block Chevy with Tremec Clutch Arm Query

Thanks for that Dave, I've already splashed out on a 7/8" master I just now need a Disco Slave (sounds Kinky).

Looks like I'll cutting and shutting next week as you suggest.

we've got friends down from midlands this weekend so much work on the Cob.

But much exercising of the elbow. :9 :9

As for why not Repower no real reason, to be honest I hadn't realised the two set ups were so different when I ordered the stuff. (20/20 hind sight as usual)
I'll get it right next time (Next Time oh sh*t)somebody call an ambulance. :+

Have good weekend all you Cobsters!!

Small Block Chevy with Tremec Clutch Arm Query

Hi Guys,
have any of you fellow small block chevy guys ever built a car using a Tremec gearbox fitted with a mcleod safety bellhousing etc, and a mcleod clutch arm?

I only have the engine and transmission roughly in place while I wait for supply of my engine mountings, but it looks to me if I'm going to have a foul between the passenger side tunnel and clutch lever.

I don't much fancy cutting the body about, but it's that or shorten the clutch arm by an inch or so (25mm for the kids) but I wonder what that might do to the lever ratios, I'm advised that I need use a 7/8 master and slave cylinders too.

I hope to attach a picture showing my problem.

Any useful suggestions?
