DAX Body

I've just gone to fit the body on my dax but it doesn't line up too good. I had to extend the slot for the handbrake braket to get the body over it. Is this a common thing or is it because the body isn't forward enough because of the ali bulkhead. I did get it on in the end after extending the slot for the handbrake but am a bit concerned as if I fix the tube down other things might not line up later in the build.

RE: DAX Body

This may happen on odd occasions as the jig that is used when all the bodyshell components are bonded together does not have a handbrake bracket fitted, the reason for this is that if it was fitted then all the customers who order LHD kits from them would have a slot cut into their floor that they do not need and hence the reason that you do not have a slot cut into the floor on the passenger side.
You should have no problems with the rest of the fit after this as there is only really one place the body can go due to the contoured floor (just make sure that once down that the body is pushed forward until the foot boxes (including your panneling) touch the plate on the footwell outriggers...you know where i mean).
This is really nothing to worry about just extend the slot until it fits....If you think this is bad it's a good job that you didn't buy a Sumo as they need major amounts of fettling.
Good luck with the rest of your build.

RE: DAX Body

Now now Dave

I thought that the forum in general had decided not to make insinuations about other manufactures. I built a Sumo and apart from fitting the doors I had no problems with the rest of the build.

Value for money the Sumo can't be beaten.

RE: DAX Body

Hi Mike.
What about drilling the galv. out of all the holes.
drilling all your own light holes.
Trying to get the body centralised.
Packing the sills.
Tryig to get the Cortina door catches to fit inside the doors around the exess matting.
Not just filing/grinding bits off the doors but having to cut bits off to make them fit so that you can open them in addition to all the mither with the hinges.
Did yours have a bonnet that had been left in the mould long enough or did you have to add 1/2 an inch of filler around the bonnet scoop because it had "sunk"
Did you have to put your screen rubber in upside down to get it to reach the scuttle.
Did your inner wings fit.
And once fitted did they catch the tyres on full lock.
C'mon, if it was that good why have you now got an AK?

Am i whinging here?

Having said all this i do like the Sumo but only as a budget build, i wouldn't recommend anyone "over specing" the car for future value reasons.

RE: DAX Body

Dave

Had to drill out galv, correct
drill for lights, correct
body centralising, packing sills, fitting door catches, filling and grinding all comes under fitting of doors, cause you have to fit the body to match the doors.
Bonnet fitted near perfect.
Screen fitted perfect.
Inner wings fitted but they are both different shapes, Yes I had to recess the near side inner wing, wheel did touch.

But as I said, you gets what you pays for.

Ive built an AK, because I wanted a Chevy, I did'nt fancy putting all them horses in a Sumo chassis and as you said I woud'nt recommend anywhon else does.
