cam bearings

Hi,

Back to a cam bearings question? What position do the oil holes have to end up in the sbc 350 in the 5 cam bearings, year is 1975? Narrow fit rear bearing is being used. There is one hole in each except bearing no.1 at the front that has two holes (one is a quarter of the away round from the other)

Thanks Graham

RE: cam bearings

The hole in the bearing needs to line up with the hole in the block. If you want to do a check, a simple 5/32 brass rod will check alignment. With regards the bearing with two holes, check if there are two holes in the block, if not it dosent make much sense and I would not worry too much about it as long as all the oil feed holes that are available line up. Remember you pull the bearings into position with an installer tool.
Best of luck with it.
Mike.

RE: cam bearings

Hi Mikey,

Damn I have installed them at 2 o'clock as per a clevite website.

Like you I thought that the holes should line up,but to line up with which holes (a) the upper holes that lead to the main gallery or the lower holes that lead to the the main bearings????

Thanks again

Graham

RE: cam bearings

Guys - you know how much I know about Chevys, but I thought the rearmost cam bearing was the one with two holes - doesn't one feed the distributor drive gear somehow?
Educate me if you will.

Wilf
