    T56 input shaft selection

I know this came up in a thread of mine, but since I can't find it (only the thread where I make reference to the other thread.. d'oh!) and have the memory of a goldfish, I can't remember who told me this..

Anyway, my T56 has a 'long' input shaft and I need a 'short' .. searching around I find two options:

    1. Part number 1386-585-005, 9.31" long and 10 spline
    2. Part number TUFM6132, 9 3/4" long and 26 spline listed as for a "T56 Ford Cobra transmission"

Anyone who's been down this road before, which did you get? The shorter GM part (1386-xxx) or the slightly longer but still shorter than the long-GM part 26 spline input shaft? At this stage I think I can fit either - granted one is $100 more than the other...

    It was probably me Aaron,
I had to change the TKO 600 one from a long one to a short one, to fit the FE.
I assume the T56 has a very similar input shaft to the TKO?
26 spline is what you want. not sure of the part number off hand but don't forget to order a new input shaft bearing as well.
Have a look on Tremecs website. or maybe Mike Fortes.
The 10 spline would be OK with a toploader.

Thanks Kev - it seems the part numbers are different between TKO and T56; indeed the lengths appear to be radically different, though the difference between lengths appears similar.

Looks like I might have to suck it and see (expensive with a $300 input shaft!) w/ the 26 spline 9 3/4" shaft unless a mail to Mike Fortes bears significant fruit. It would be significantly easier with a TKO as they sell an "FE" specific input shaft

Aaron. Can't you just ask TTC? Transmission Technologies Corporation (TTC)
