SU Carb Vacuum pipe layout

I've just bought an RV8 engine fitted with SU carbs, problem is all the feed pipes for the vacuum etc have been taken off and I'm not sure which pipe goes where.

Anyone got any ideas?

RE: SU Carb Vacuum pipe layout

There should be a pipe running from the flame trap to a y-piece, and then to two similarly sized pipes to fittings on the sides of the carbs. The pipe for the brake servo connects to the fitting on the manifold in front of the carb mounting. Hope this helps, it's been a while since I had a twin su setup (have weber 500 on edelbrock manifold now

The black connector is for the brake servo. I don't know about the 2 small connectors, I don't remember them being connected to anything (but I might be wrong)

yes, the two small pipes are vents, there is a special bit of stiff plastic pipe (per carb) that takes them out over the manifold and over the side of the engine - guess this is because they would become overflows if one of the floats jammed(?) - If you don't have them I may have them going spare lying around in the garage somewhere, as I too have now swapped for a weber 500, though it would be quite easy to knock something up I guess?

RE: SU Carb Vacuum pipe layout

By the way, I also have a pile of spare needles for my HIF44E SU carbs (and indeed the carbs themselves and the manifold....) - think they are the same for HIF6 - I'm not going to do anything with them, so if anyone wants any of them they are welcome
You will probably need to change the needles if you change the filters for K&Ns (I have them too if anyone wants them - maybe I should move this to the bits going free for sale section!!) or if you change the cam, or anything else really

RE: SU Carb Vacuum pipe layout

That's ggod cause Ive got a big pipe with a "Y" piece in it. I was worried as to the pipe in the centre youve mentioned but there's also a black connector coming out of the manifold (Bottom left in picture) which I can't fathom out as to where to connect it.
I've assumed the two small pipes next to the large breather pipes are for the drains ?
