hi

this is the first of what i expect to be a long list of questions

i have almost finished striping my engine and have found it to be the kind that uses an air pump system are there any benifits to using this or can i remove it? if so how?

RE: 302 info

I'm no big Ford expert but I've no doubt that the air pump is for secondary air injection or EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) either way it's for U.S. emissions regs and you don't want or need it.
I would suggest that you strip your engine down as far as possible remove as many of the gallery and block plugs as you can (you should change them anyway they may be rusted).
Take the block etc. down to the local garage and spend half an hour on the hot jet wash (go on don't be shy)
It's always much easier to work on a clean engine. If you are going to have it rebored etc. the reconditioner will almost certainly have a hot wash too.

cheers

RE: 302 info

Mark - one other thing to check out if you have the air injection heads - there will be ports at the rear of the heads open to the exhaust - you will need to block these up with a bolt or whatever, else it will sound like a tractor and heat up the firewall pretty quick!
