Tommy,
you should have a spacer hat goes on the driveshaft before the hub is attached. It is concaved on one side and flat on the other, It is about 1 1/2" in diameter and about 1/4" thick. The flat side faces the hub.

Evening guys
Could I ask some advice on rear hubs
I spent the day fitting the loom to my AK, and started to bleed the brakes. As I jacked the car up the rear nearside wheel was slack... Very slack. I investigate the issue by firstly removing the wheel, and the whole hub had a good amount of movement, yet the castle nut was tight and split pin fine. I removed the outer pivot shaft and removed the whole hub and carrier off. When I inspected the back of the hub something is very wrong. The oil seal has been badly chewed up and the alloy hub carrier has been getting scared from the drive shaft. I will get some pictures tomorrow to help explain what I mean.
My hubs were sent to Ed at Ward, and will probs have to go back now. I'v spent some time thes evening refuring to Haynes manual along with some systematics from SNG etc... It seems I'm missing something surly? But can't find out what.
Should they be space out off the drive shafts slightly? If so this would explain my excessive amount of shims to achive an acceptable camber.
I will get some pictures tomorrow, but my initial thoughts were the ABS ring was not in to act as a spacer, but the ABS ring is between the inner and outer bearing and its the inner bearing that is getting the greef.
The running gear is XJS 1989 with ABS originally.
Any help or advice from the forum of knowledge?

That sound correct mate.
I certainly don't have that.
Have you got a part number mate?
I can't see it on any diagrams.

It's the called the "seating ring for the oil seal" it goes on the driveshaft first, then the spacer shim before you put the shaft through the hub. Barretts mis-describe it on the XJS diagram! But it's part#CCC6807 in the XJS one so should be the same.

No mate, thats not them. I was missing one and they are about £30 each to buy. I got one from Wards for much less than that. You will probably only need to replace the oil seal on the rear hubs, I did on the one that was damaged.

Cheers guys.
I will give Ed a call on Monday, see if he has a couple.
Im going to replace both the oil seals Paul. One is totaly destroyed and one is scuffed and will contaminate the bearing if used, so there both going.

It's a long time ago since I did this on mine, but isn't this the spacer that adjusts the end float. If so it might not be just a case of ordering a replacement. I know when Wards did mine they made a big point of telling me not to get them mixed up.
Martin
I don't think so martin. From what I can see the spacer that controlls the endfloat has to be mated to a flat surface, hence this bit I'm missing. If not it will just be up against the radius edge of the drive shaft and not give any clearance, thus my knackerd oil seal. I will be having a good chat with Ed first mind. Because I don't want a visit from Mr Cockup! ......again!
